Winter Recipes with Shrimp

Winter Recipes with Shrimp

There’s a certain level of comfort that we associate with seafood, and this is especially true when the colder weather sets in every fall and winter. A warm, soothing meal just tastes better when the temperatures outside are low and there’s a chill in the air. Our wild-caught Gulf shrimp are perfect for the occasion. Here, Biloxi Shrimp Co. offers two shrimp recipes that will warm you from the inside out this winter.

Cajun Shrimp with Black Rice

One of the best ways to stay warm in chilly weather is by spicing up our fresh, juicy shrimp with the Cajun spices the Biloxi area is known for. Try this recipe for Cajun shrimp with black rice:

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • ¾ tsp. dried thyme
  • ¾ tsp. dried oregano
  • ¼ tsp. garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ¼ tsp. ground black pepper
  • ¼ tsp. cayenne pepper, or more to taste
  • 1½ lbs. large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 cup black rice
  • 2¼ cup water (or broth)

Cooking Instructions

  1. Bring 2¼ cup of water or broth to a boil on medium-high heat. Once the water is boiling, put your rice in, cover the top of the pot and drop the heat to low. Cook for 30-35 minutes, and then remove from the burner and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
  2. Next, place your pan on the stove and turn the heat back up to medium-high. Then, combine your paprika, dried thyme, dried oregano, garlic powder, salt, ground black pepper and cayenne pepper in a sealable plastic bag. The cayenne pepper can be measured to taste, so if you like your food on the spicier side, feel free to use more than ¼ tsp. Shake to mix everything together, and then add your shrimp and shake again until each piece is covered.
  3. Now, add a little vegetable oil to your pan and cook the shrimp for about 2 minutes on each side. They should be bright pink and have that classic ‘C’ shape. Once the shrimp are cooked, plate it on top of your rice and you’re ready to eat! The subtle nuttiness of the black rice pairs perfectly with that timeless Cajun blend.

Panko-Breaded Fried Shrimp

Sometimes you need a little fried food to hit the spot. And we know that for some shrimp lovers, oil can sit a little heavy in the stomach, making it hard to finish those last few pieces of shrimp. Luckily, this air fryer-friendly recipe for panko-breaded shrimp is perfect for even the coldest of nights.

Ingredients

Cooking Instructions

  1. First, set up your dredging station. Beat the eggs in a medium-sized bowl, mix your salt, pepper and flour on one plate, and then, on a separate plate, pour out your breadcrumbs.
  2. Next, take your shrimp and toss them in the flour. Then, place them in the egg wash, ensuring every side is covered.
  3. Finally, press both sides of the shrimp into the panko. Be sure to shake off any excess at each stage of the breading. Once your shrimp are breaded, place them in the air fryer at 385 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes.
  4. Grab your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!
